Steve Sonner

For Steve Sonner, who has been with Hyspeco for more than 35 years, the most fulfilling part of his job is helping people improve. This mindset, as well as his passion for “excellence in doing everything,” serves him well in his role as Parker Store Retail Manager and Customer Service Representative. Previously, Steve was in outside sales, and has made the transition from working with outside to internal customers.

Steve lives by Hyspeco’s mantra: “Together We Will Be Successful.” This shows in his dedication to helping others during his many years with the company. The most rewarding part of his job, he says, is “mentoring our young people and seeing them succeed.”

Like many others, Steve considers Hyspeco family. These connections were important when Steve faced a tremendous personal challenge during his time at Hyspeco—the loss of his best friend, Tom Ralls. “We tend to care about each other,” Steve says of the Hyspeco team.

In his spare time, Steve enjoys bass fishing and “walking the weiner dogs.” He also has a “missionary heart.” He and his wife fund a church and orphanage in Kenya. Buddy Tucker

“Unity is strength. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.”

This is the mantra of Inventory Control Manager Buddy Tucker, who has been with Hyspeco for 14 years. The most fulfilling part of his job, he says, is “coaching and motivating others to do their job to the best of their abilities and helping make the company more profitable”.

Buddy is responsible for inventory control, inventory accuracy, stocking levels, returns, and managing shipping and receiving crews at all branches.

His passion for helping others makes him a perfect fit for his role. “I try to make inventory as accurate as possible, which in turn helps everyone else do their jobs better. I also get to coach and motivate fellow employees,” he says.

Like many others at Hyspeco, Buddy appreciates the company’s family atmosphere and its Christian roots and culture. “We support each other and hold each other accountable to maintain our culture,” he notes.

In his spare time, Buddy enjoys spending time with his family, shooting sports, and taking care of his homestead!

Jim Robinson

For Jim Robinson, a Technical Salesman who has been with Hyspeco for 12 years, the most fulfilling part of his day is working directly with customers. His daily routine includes making sales calls and assisting customers with their engineering and troubleshooting needs. The most challenging part of his job is finding new and innovative ways to add value to his various projects.

Jim lives by Hyspeco’s mantra “Together we will be successful” which makes him a perfect fit for the company. Whether it be a co-worker, a friend at his church or one of his grandkids, Jim’s passion in life is helping people. The most rewarding part of his job is hearing a customer’s praise for the company. He considers Hyspeco different than other companies because of its clear vision to provide value and increase production for its customers.

Jim considers Hyspeco family and says he has many “brothers & sisters in the Lord.” In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his best friend, his wife – even if it means doing laundry or cleaning!

Larry Hartley

For Larry Hartley, a technical sales representative at Hyspeco for more than 10 years, the most fulfilling part of his day is any time a customer calls him directly for help. “I love being able to help customers solve problems, but it’s even more exciting when they call for me personally. It’s during instances like these that I know I’m exactly where I should be at that very moment.”

While Larry’s daily routine involves calling customers and following up with their requests or needs, he never forgets about his Hyspeco family. “While my main role here is to foster and satisfy relationships between customers and Hyspeco, I also feel it’s equally as important to do so internally amongst my peers.”

During his spare time, you can usually find Larry spending time with his family or enjoying various theatre art activities.

Tom Ross

For Tom Ross, a sales representative at Hyspeco for about a year, the most fulfilling part of his day is solving customer problems. “One thing I think we do better than most at Hyspeco is solve problems. Service and repairs, kitting and subassemblies, inventory management, our family is skilled in all these areas and more. Give us a problem, we’ll get you the solution.”

Tom, who is responsible for generating sales and building relationships with new and potential customers, lives each day by the mantra Finish what you start! “Whether you’re trying to land a new lead, solve a customer’s problem or build a new fence at home — give it your all and don’t give up until it’s finished!”

Aside from Hyspeco’s highly-diversified product and service offerings, Tom believes that family is what sets Hyspeco apart from other companies. “We’re all family here and each day they inspire me to do more.”

During his spare time, you can usually find Tom spending time with his kids, golfing or outdoors with his dogs.

Jeff Ralls

For Jeff Ralls, a purchasing manager at Hyspeco for more than 17 years, the most fulfilling part of his day is having the opportunity to help out his fellow employees. “While I am directly responsible for purchasing the products we sell, I also feel that I am responsible for helping out the other employees. We all lean on each other, so it’s vital that we all help out wherever possible.”

Jeff started in shipping and receiving before working in the Parker Store for a few years. He then moved on to customer service for about 10 years before transferring to the purchasing department.

He believes the mantra most relevant to doing his job well is teamwork. “Every day we rely on each other just like family to reach our goals. I could not do what I do without the help of the other Hyspeco team members and I try and reciprocate that back each and every day.”

Like most others at Hyspeco, Jeff loves the family atmosphere. “Whether in Springfield or at one of our other three branches, we try to do everything we can to help each other out regardless of the circumstances. Hyspeco truly is a family and I enjoy every minute of it.”

During his spare time, Jeff enjoys golfing, fishing and, most of all, spending time with his wife and two great kids.

Charlie Gwinner

For Charlie Gwinner, a customer service representative with more than 25 years at Hyspeco, the most fulfilling part of his job is hearing a customer tell him how much they appreciate his help.

“Customers frequently call frustrated because they can’t solve a problem or find the parts they’re looking for. So, when I’m able to help them, they’re usually really appreciative which always feels great!”

On a typical Hyspeco day, you can find Charlie answering customer phone calls and emails, and entering orders. On occasion, you may even find him helping out in-store at the counter.

“Though customer service is my main responsibility, my overall daily tasks can vary greatly which helps make each day just as interesting as the next. I pretty much help out wherever I’m needed.”

When asked if he felt Hyspeco was like family, Charlie responded, “Absolutely! We joke, we laugh, and generally have a good time at work — just like with family!”

During his spare time, Charlie enjoys spending time with his daughter and going to antique malls, estate sales and flea markets.

Like many at Hyspeco, Shane’s passion in life is spending time with his family which is reflected each day when he walks through the doors. “Family is very important to me and I try to treat my co-workers the same way I treat my family. It’s pretty easy to do since everyone is so positive and encouraging.”

During his spare time, you can find Shane spending time with his granddaughter, riding his motorcycle, going to the lake with his family and friends, or tailgating K-State football games.

For Tom Barney, account manager at Hyspeco, the most fulfilling part of his day is watching the team come together to raise expectations. “No matter how busy we are, I can watch as our team collaborates, frequently assisting each other to achieve optimum results. It’s really amazing being able witness such cohesiveness day after day.”

Tom literally has his hands in everything at Hyspeco, jumping around between the sales department, customer service, marketing or any other area that requires his assistance. “You’ll rarely find me sitting. If there’s a customer that needs help, I’m there. If there’s a problem in the shop, I’m there. Whatever it takes to get the job done right!”

After more than 31 years with the company, Hyspeco has truly become a second family to Tom. “I love spending time with my family and friends, which works out great since most of them work here.”

During his spare time, you can typically find Tom following his passion in life, Christ, fishing, or spending time with his family and friends.

For Kay Scott, Human Resources director at Hyspeco, the most fulfilling part of her day is offering opportunities that change lives. “My passion in life is serving others. Whether it’s helping someone find a more fitting position within our company or solving an issue that is causing them to miss out on family time — I love helping families!”

After more than 11 years with Hyspeco, today you can find Kay working closely with Kim Zavala on all things Human Resources. Kay believes what separates Hyspeco from other employers is their strong family values.

“We are brothers and sisters…I mean, many call our President David, dad. This family of folks truly cares about each and every person, which shines through our one for all and all for one philosophy.”

But these strong family values don’t stop at Hyspeco. Rather, they extend into the community as employees step out and offer their time, skills and money. “Our folks are so generous!”

During her free time, Kay enjoys volunteering at her church and traveling with her family. And, when both time and weather permits, you just may find Kay and her husband raising their expectations on a relaxing cruise.
